Project Oarsome Overview

Project Oarsome is part of the British Rowing's National Junior Rowing Programme (NJRP) and is aimed at attracting, supporting and retaining young people in rowing.

The main feature of PO is the linking of rowing clubs to state schools.

The programme makes use of the British Rowing's junior rowing programme and awards scheme, with the aim of guiding children through two distinct but complementary phases:

Dry Start - using the indoor rowing machines predominantly at the school and then progressing via a water safety assement to:

Wet Start - moving into rowing boats at the club.

It is hoped then that some of the younger participants will go on to formally join the rowing club and development their full potential within the sport.

STAR CLUB is the only club in Bedford which is affiliated to Project Oarsome and offers this school-club link partnership.

In the 2009-2010 season, STAR CLUB is linked to the following schools in Bedfordshire:

Biddenham Upper School

St Thomas More Upper School

Redbourne Upper School

Samual Whitbread Upper School

Rushmoor School

Indoor Rowing Competitions

Quarterly indoor rowing competitios are held for all schools involved in the Project Oarsome programme as well as other schools who offer indoor rowing programmes.

Please visit the 'Club News' section of the website for details of the next competition being held.
