Marlow Long Distance Sculls 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Ellie 0.2 seconds from win at the Long Distance Sculls

7 Star juniors travelled down in the rain to the Marlow Long Distance Sculls on Saturday 31st October to compete over the 4800m challenging course.

This event is used as a final run out in a competitive field for the GB Trialists who will be attending the GB Early Identification Trials on Saturday 21st November in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Ellie Grimley competiting in the WJ17 Sculls came the closet to winning finishing only 0.2 seconds behind her rivel from City of Oxford, who had beaten Ellie by 40+ seconds at Wallingford Long Distance Sculls earlier in the season. However, if Ellie hadn't of decided to cut down the overhanging trees along the course then maybe the verdict would have been a win??

In the J18 Sculls event Tom Durrant yet again came away from a Long Distance Sculls event in 2nd place (the other event being Wallingford at the start of the season). Tom started the race at the back of the pack however picked his way through the opposition and finished 2nd behind an extremley talented sculler from Maidenhead RC.

Tom Beechinor & Andy Walker also competed in the J18 Sculls event finishing in a creditable 9th and 12th place out of 15 starters.

In the J17 Sculls event Richard Hepher was the fastest of the 3 scullers. Richard finished 4th out of 12, with Kieran Elliott coming 7th and Will Stockton following in 9th place.

For Poppy Sherborne, racing in WJ18 Sculls, the experience was not pleasurable. After 1000m of the race Poppy picked up an injury and had to row out the rest of the course.
